Let there be pomp and ceremony for the Ilê Aiyê carnival parade in the splendor of its 50th anniversary. Watching it pass by on the avenue will be like seeing the Most Beautiful of the Beautiful now with the marks of maturity, with the experience of someone who resisted, fought, paved the way and arrived powerfully. Despite five decades, it is too early to say that it has won, but it has been enough time to look at the world and know that it has made a difference. The biggest street party in the world starts this Thursday (8) and Ilê will make a special appearance at the opening of the Salvador Carnival, at Praça Castro Alves, at 8 pm, joining great names in Bahian music, such as Ivete Sangalo, Carlinhos Brown and BaianaSystem. Check out the full schedule:

The theme is a tribute to its founders: “Grandpa and Popó, with the blessings of Mother Hilda Jitolu. The invention of the Afro Block. Oh, if it weren’t for Ilê.” The celebration of Ilê’s 50th anniversary is actually a celebration of the lives of all Afro blocks in the country, and especially of Ialorixá Mother Hilda Jitolu, who blessed, protected and left a valuable legacy as an encourager of education and awareness of the black and peripheral community.
